In New York, a group of talented carvers were among the throngs of Jewish immigrants from Eastern and Central Europe who arrived in America between the 1880s and 1920s. Undocumented in surviving congregational records or by the artists themselves, the surprising association between immigrant Jewish woodcarvers and the American carousel industry is revealed through the pivotal figure of Marcus Charles Illions.

Glimmerglass Opera will stage its 34th Festival Season July 5-August 24, 2008, "If music be the food of love, play on!" Four new productions with links to Shakespeare will be presented on a set resembling an Elizabethan theater: Porter's Kiss Me, Kate, Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto, the American fully-staged premiere of Wagner's Das Liebesverbot (inspired by Shakespeare's Measure for Measure), and Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi. This class is the second in a beginning level series. Projects and skills taught will build on and enhance those learned in Blacksmithing I, with the primary focus on increasing hammer control and accuracy. Students will learn forge welding, hot splitting and use of the peen and cone mandrel and will forge a variety of items such as a leaf hook, flux spoon, toasting fork, and a round trivet.

Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This ceremony honors new inductees as well as recognizes Ford C. Frick Award winner and J.G. Taylor Award winner. Weather permitting, the ceremony takes place on the lawn of the Clark Sports Center. Professional interpretors are provided for the hearing impaired. A blanket or lawn chair is recommended for comfortable viewing. The ceremony usually lasts two hours. Refreshments are sold on-site and complimentary water is provided.

Stickley formed the philosophy for his Craftsman furniture after encountering the British Arts & Crafts movement during trips to Europe in the mid- 1890's.
